Using "busyness" as an excuse is not a valid one. Every person in a work environment has a lot going on, that's just the way it is. Just because you tell someone you are "busy" doesn't give you the right to not do work or to miss a meeting. Being busy is a mental state, not an excuse.
Each opportunity is a chance to learn more. It may be easy to discount an opportunity if it is not directly related to an interest or a passion of yours, but you can still find learnings regardless of the situation.
